“I believe that a different therapy must be constructed for each patient because each has a unique story”

IRVIN D. YALOM

MY APPROACH

At the heart of my approach to therapy is the development of a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment.  Together, we will work through the challenges you face, explore conflicts, develop greater insight, and improve your ability to cope.  My goal is to help you to achieve meaningful and long-lasting change.  While I have seen hundreds of clients across different settings, I remain humbled by the strength and bravery of every individual, couple, or family who sits with me, taking the risks inherent in growth and allowing me to be a part of their journey.  My greatest reward is when my clients feel more in control of their lives and live in a way that is truly satisfying.

From a technical standpoint, my approach draws upon various clinical theories and techniques, such as psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies.  Our therapeutic encounter will be uniquely tailored to meet your individual needs and help you to reach your individual goals.

AM I THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR YOU?

There is a great deal of research on the effectiveness of psychotherapy, which points to a myriad of factors contributing to positive outcomes.  However, one finding that continually emerges is that a strong working relationship between client and therapist is one of the most reliable predictors of a successful treatment.  The practice of therapy is expanding, and new treatments and new credentials are developing on what seems like a daily basis. Still, the simple fact remains that what matters most is that you feel a genuine human connection to your therapist, a sense that he or she understands you and your concerns.  I put our relationship at the forefront of your treatment, and I tend to it throughout.  My goal is to create an environment that is warm and welcoming and ultimately safe enough to be challenging at times.  I also recognize that I will not be the perfect therapist for everyone who walks through my door.  For that reason, should we decide, after a period of initial evaluation, that we are not a good fit, I will offer you referrals to alternative practitioners who may be a better match.
